When a contractor applies and is approved, our team verifies their identity — by reviewing the ID they submit or on a live video call — and reviews their credentials. We show you what they provided — always confirm a contractor's license and insurance yourself before you hire. Browsing the marketplace is free; we only step in to introduce the parties or prepare a contract, for a fee.

    Tell us about you and your trade — basics, business name (or just yourself), service area. Then verify your identity either way: upload your government ID and a quick selfie photo or video, or choose a short live video call with a reviewer — no files to upload.

    A reviewer checks your application within a couple of business days. You'll get an email with a one-click link to set your password, your alias, and how to send us your page.

    Email a zip with your bio, photos, work samples and credential documents to [email protected], with your alias in the subject line. We review it and publish it for you.

    Filter by trade and area. Express interest first; once the customer accepts, you can message them and submit your bid. Send your total amount, timeline, and proposal — your identity stays anonymized until you're awarded.

Why you have an alias, and why we publish your page for you

Customers compare contractors under an alias such as AstuteCobble: trade, service area, credentials, work samples and bids. No names, no faces. That keeps the comparison on the work and the price, and keeps out anything a name or a photo might suggest about race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age or disability. A customer learns who you are only after awarding you the job.

Because of that, profile content is not published straight from an editor. You send it to us, we check it against the content rules and the alias rule, and we put it live. To send or update your page, put everything in one zip and email it to [email protected] from the address on your account, with your alias in the subject line. If anything needs changing, we reply by email and agree it with you before it goes live.

Your agreement, in writing

When you and your contractor both choose it, we prepare the written contract for the two of you — with the notices California, Massachusetts, Minnesota and Wisconsin laws require already in it, including your three-day right to cancel. We prepare the document; the agreement is between you and the contractor.

How the contract works →

Every contractor's ID is verified

Verifying a government ID is a minimum requirement to onboard — nobody is listed or can bid without it. Licenses and insurance are collected and shown on the profile, but confirm those yourself before you hire.

Anonymous until you're chosen

Customers see contractors as Contractor_N while comparing bids — no business names, no logos, no demographic cues. Identity unlocks only after the customer awards the job.

Your address stays private

Customers post jobs by postal code only. Street addresses are never shown on the public marketplace and only shared once a contract is signed.

Common questions

Do I need an account to look around? expand_more
No. Anyone can browse open jobs and contractor profiles without signing in. You only create an account when you're ready to post a job or submit a bid.
How long does contractor approval take? expand_more
Most applications are reviewed within one to two business days. We'll email you with the decision and, on approval, a link to set your password and finish your profile.
Can I verify my identity without uploading documents? expand_more
Yes — both contractors and customers can choose live video verification instead of a document upload: contractors when they apply, customers on the identity verification page in their account. A reviewer verifies your physical government-issued ID on a short, private video call — no ID or selfie files are uploaded to platform storage. You'll get an email with a scheduled meeting invitation; if the time doesn't work, reply to arrange another. Both options are equally acceptable.
Can I record a selfie video instead of a photo? expand_more
If you chose the document-upload option, yes. A short 5–10 second selfie video (MP4 or MOV) is great proof-of-life for the reviewer — preferred over a still photo when possible. Keep it under 80 MB.
Can I cancel a project after I post it? expand_more
Yes. From My Jobs you can take a draft down, unpublish (if no bids yet), or cancel a posting that already has bids. Contractors who bid on a cancelled posting are notified.
What does CoolProject cost? expand_more
Browsing and posting are free. Contractor application is free. Pricing for awarded contracts is shared during contract setup, before any commitment.
